Jesse Wine’s practice primarily focuses on traditional materials and construction methods with, at its core a dynamic use of ceramics, which he utilizes to produce a vast array of sculptural forms, self portraits and abstract vessel like structures. Within the making of these works, Wine makes the careful decision to relinguish control over the works final outcome, allowing pieces to fold in on themselves or collapse and retaining ‘errors’ within the final presentation. This element of surprise and chance is fundamental for Wine and how he engages with his works, with the origins for each coming from a fascination with objects. Indeed Wine’s practice is filled with art historical reference and homage with many works ‘copied’ from and inspired by other artists’ work.
He is based in London.
