Jonathan Owen specialises in a kind of elegant vandalism. By reducing his subjects he delicately examines the essential qualities of an object or image, transforming their entire meaning and presenting the viewer with the curiously unexpected.
Owen has previously held solo exhibitions at the Ingleby Gallery, Edinburgh, UK (2014); doggerfisher, Edinburgh, UK (2009); Andrew Mummery Gallery, London, UK (2005); Uncle Judge, Graves Gallery, Sheffield, UK (2003). He has exhibited nationally in group shows such as; ‘Personal, Political, Mysterious’, The FLAG Art Foundation, New York, USA (2013); ‘The Secret Confession’, Edinburgh College of Art, Edinburgh, UK (2011). In 2000 Owen was was awarded The John Watson Prize by the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
