Simon Martin

Simon Martin’s work examines how objects and their original context are changed by virtue of being archived and curated. He is interested in the museum experience, in particular the relationship between viewer and artefact. Through an examination of the displaced object, he focuses on the abstract nature of collecting, treated historically as simply an individual’s accumulation of ‘things’.

Martin has previously exhibited at the Chisenhale, London; Kunstverein, Amsterdam,(2010);  ‘Lightbox’, Tate Britain, London, (2008); White Columns, New York, (2005).  He was the recipient of a Paul Hamlyn Award (2008)  shortlisted for the Jarman Award (2009).

Simon Martin (b. 1965) lives and works in London.
