Valerie Norris

Norris works with sculpture, collage, painting and writing to explore and distil the slippages and shifts that occur between the physical world, language and intuitive thought. Works often evolve from found objects and text, from which chance relationships and complex layers of association are formed. This process of accumulation and appropriation functions as a means of contemplating the counterpoint between reality and imagination, and the transformative potential of objects and everyday detritus. Strategies of rhythm, pattern and play perform as a framework for experimentation and to generate open-ended structures and ideas, creating a folding of narrative and perceptual understanding, and a vivid imagining of the space between things.
