Glasgow international 2018

20 April—
7 May

Kirsty Hendry, Ilona Sagar

Lab-oratory accompanies Self-Service, a collaborative project launching at the CCA as part of Gi2018. Self-Service sees Kirsty Hendry and Ilona Sagar respond to the archives of The Peckham Pioneer Centre – a radical biological social experiment for encouraging health, local empowerment, and self-organisation founded in the first half of the 20th century. Taking the form of an event series and publication, Self-Service brings together new works from Hendry, Sagar, and a range of invited collaborators and contributors to explore the history, design, and social context of welfare – examining our increasingly uneasy and technology infused relationship to health, wellbeing labour.

Lab-oratory is the second of two events that have been developed as a companion to the publication. Inspired by serial publication authored by the members of the Peckham Experiment titled ‘Guinea Pig’, Lab-oratory will consider questions of voice, agency, and authority in relation to the archive. Through workshops, talks, and discussion, together we’ll collectively generate new responses to the original materials.
