This exhibition was due to take place during Glasgow International 2020, 23 April – 10 May, which has been postponed due to the Covid-19 crisis. The festival will be re-staged in 2021 with dates to be announced.
Often small in scale but rich in memorable imagery and narrative power, the works of Glasgow-based artist Andrew Sim traverse the lines between personal and collective queerness. Working predominantly in pastel on paper, Sim, who has had recent solo exhibitions at Karma gallery, New York and Summerhall, Edinburgh, creates captivating worlds that are at once familiar and strangely unsettling.
For Heal the Sick, Raise the Dead, Sim brings together mythical creatures, ancient archetypes, and pop culture references. The result is a series of works that address issues around mental health while situating queer histories within a dizzying variety of occult, alchemical and esoteric religious traditions.
