This exhibition was due to take place during Glasgow International 2020, 23 April – 10 May, which has been postponed due to the Covid-19 crisis. The festival will be re-staged in 2021 with dates to be announced.

Bringing together the work of eight artists, Stepping Out shines a spotlight on Glasgow’s diverse queer performance scene. By presenting an array of costumes that would usually only be seen from a distance on a club stage, and allowing visitors to take the time to view them up close, the exhibition offers the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the thought, care and labour that underpins queer performance.

An accompanying documentary by Dylan Moore not only captures the energy of the live performance but also includes interviews in which the artists discuss their varied approaches to performance, to costume design, and to the roles they play within their wider artistic practices.
