This exhibition was due to take place during Glasgow International 2020, 23 April – 10 May, which has been postponed due to the Covid-19 crisis. The festival will be re-staged in 2021 with dates to be announced.
Artist Leontios Toumpouris presents Palimpsest of voices, a new site-responsive work installed in the Assembly Hall of Oakgrove Primary School. Through a series of workshops, Toumpouris has been working with the school’s extended community – including pupils, families, and staff – in order to produce bisque-fired ceramic pieces that form parts of a mural and invent the characters of a fictional language.
Alongside the mural, holographic projectors display 3D animations of the invented language, floating within the main communal area of the school. Palimpsest of voices explores the fragility of language and communication through a process of creative learning that aims to extend beyond words or shared background.
