Located in a massive former tram depot built in 1893, Tramway is a multi-arts space which commissions, produces and presents contemporary art across a range of disciplines. Major projects have included the only UK performances of Peter Brook’s Mahabharata in 1988 and Dark Continent: SEMIRAMIS by joint Turner Prize-winner Tai Shani for GI 2018.
The building served as the city’s main tram terminus until the 1960s and then as the Museum of Transport until 1986. Today it is also home to cultural organisations like Scottish Ballet and The Work Room. The distinctive architecture and history of the venue help to make Tramway a memorable place to create and experience contemporary art in all its forms.
