Mary Mary

In her first UK exhibition, Mae Smith presented new paintings employing a personalised iconography that generates ideas about sexual politics, gender, humour, the artist and studio.

Mixing references as diverse as Disney and the Art Nouveau, her work is at once eccentric, cartoonish and sophisticated, offering us wry humour and intelligence.
