Salon Sebastian Monteux
258 Kenmure Street
Salon Sebastian Monteux was the locale for a fictitious collector presenting a group exhibition and series of performances by artists who are products of Scottish arts' institutions.
It is derived from historical model of art patronage; single individuals or families that act as supports for artists in their production and exhibition of work. The arts patron pulls art away from the institution and into the realm of the domestic and personal aesthetic.
This exhibition offered nothing of this backstory. Instead it operated simply as a platform for the work of the collected artists to be exhibited. It presented artists from the media of painting, photography, video, sculpture and performance. Their works combined to present themes of gender, sexuality, theatricality, sociability and the tableaux.
