Joanna Stawnicka

Joanna Stawnicka is a photographer and visual artist born in Lublin, Poland, and based in Glasgow, Scotland. Since graduating from the Glasgow School of Art in 2022, her work was awarded the Alice Duncan Prize and shown at Futureproof 2022 at Stills Centre for Photography in Edinburgh. In 2023 she took part in the imPACT Bursary and Creative Development Programme at Street Level Photoworks and exhibited during the Stirling Photography Festival at the Tolbooth in Stirling. 

She uses photography to overlay physical reality with the invisible realms of inner landscapes, dreams, and individual and collective memories. Her practice combines diaristic photography with performative and sculptural elements and raises an open-ended question of whether it belongs to truth or fiction.
