Deniz Uster – Harvest Stone, Cultivate Care:

Community Empowerment Through Community Rights to Buy Land

Driven by the issues raised in Deniz Uster’s exhibition Citadel, Linda Gillespie from Community Ownership Support Service and David Adams from Helensburgh Community Woodlands Group will lead a discussion  revolving around Community Right to Buy Land, a pre-emptive right for communities throughout Scotland under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, which was improved by the Community Empowerment Act in 2015.

It provides communities who successfully register a community interest in land (churches, pubs, estates, empty shops, woodland, fields, or buildings that are abandoned, neglected or detrimental to the environmental well-being of the community where the owner is not willing to sell) with the first option to buy when the registered land is offered for sale.
