Nicolas Party

Installation

Nicolas Party presents a new major public artwork outside The Modern Institute, Aird’s Lane.

Party’s practice focuses on examining and re-imagining painting’s traditional genres of still life, portraiture and landscape, which he often renders in a graphic and flat manner. Working across painting, installation, drawing and sculpture, Party’s varied engagement with his chosen medium is reflective of his broader interest in art history and decorative tradition.

Party considers the natural environment and the social context in conceiving his immersive, site-specific works. He is interested in how paint and form has the power to alter our perception of the built environment, and he regularly paints murals, either as stand-alone works or as carefully orchestrated settings for his paintings.
