Common Ground

Join artist Rehana Zaman for a collective conversation exploring solidarity across land rights, seasonal labour, and community movements in Scotland. Bringing together agricultural workers who appear in the film Soft Fruit, members of the Worker Support Centre and activists and growers from the local area, the event will consider how solidarity, care, and justice are shaped through struggles connected to land, labour, and wider social justice movements.

The discussion builds on the narratives emerging from Soft Fruit, in which Zaman follows a community of seasonal workers tending, picking and packing strawberries in Angus, on Scotland’s east coast. Developed through intimate conversations and observance, the film reflects on the experiences of workers from across multiple cultures and geographies, including Bulgaria, Kazakhstan and Kenya.

Extending outward from the film, the event will consider contemporary questions of migration, labour, and collective care within both Scottish and global contexts. The conversation will be facilitated by Zaman, whose exhibition Plantation will be on view during Glasgow International 2026 from 4–21 June 2026. Worker Support Centre is a Scottish charity working in partnership with people who have come to Scotland on tied and temporary visas to support our loved ones in social care, or to pick fruit, berries and vegetables on farms. They provide advice to secure their rights, end exploitation, build collective power and drive lasting change together.

The discussion will be facilitated by artist Rehana Zaman whose exhibition Plantation will be on view at Glasgow International from June 4th-June 21st.
