Join dance collective In The Making for a live response to The Subtle Body, unfolding throughout the morning within the exhibition space.

Working with movement scores developed collectively over several years, the artists will respond in situ to Katy Dove and Lygia Clark’s archival materials and the architecture of the space. Rather than presenting a fixed choreography, the piece unfolds as an open and responsive process shaped by the exhibition, the building and encounters that take place within it.

Visitors are invited to drop in to the space during the morning while the collective rehearses to witness the choreographic process as it evolves through the exhibition and observe how gesture, rhythm, repetition and improvisation emerge through collaboration and play. A concluding live gathering at 12.30pm offers a shared moment to bring together material and interactions developed during the morning.

The response builds upon Make a Shape (2008), a collaborative project developed by Katy Dove and dance practitioner Sheila Macdougall, now a member of In The Making, with children from Wellhouse Primary School during a two-year residency at Platform in Easterhouse. Materials from the project are presented within The Subtle Body, including collaged photographic works and a film in which bodies, shadows and projected animation merge through playful acts of movement and transformation. Echoing Lygia Clark’s interest in the ‘collective body’ and shared sensory experience, the response emphasises participation, perception and collective meaning-making - concerns that run through both artists’ practices.

The live gathering will be informal and non-seated, with audiences invited to move through the space alongside the performers. Seating will be available for those who prefer to sit. The venue is wheelchair accessible via lift access.

In The Making are a dance collective whose score-based practice explores relationships between movement, space, time and collective improvisation. Working collaboratively and responsively, their projects create frameworks for shared authorship, experimentation and embodied exchange.
