Tour Leaders for Gi 2021

Glasgow International is inviting individuals of colour who would like to lead a tour of the festival exhibitions to nominate themselves. We are particularly interested in inviting proposals from people who would like to devise their own routes through the festival with a particular community group in mind. For example, if you are part of a community support group, or have a network of friends or colleagues for whom you would like to do a personal introduction to the festival, we would like to hear from you. This is an opportunity for people of colour of all age groups. The purpose is to open up the interpretation of GI’s exhibitions.

  • Each tour leader would receive a fee of £500 for the planning and delivery of the tour. There will be 2 tour leaders appointed. We would expect minimum 2 tours to be delivered.
  • To apply, please send in a short (200 words or 3 minute video message) on what interests you about this opportunity, how you would approach creating your tour and who you hope would be able to attend.
  • We are interested in hearing about tour ideas that take different formats: digital / physical – subject to government guidelines/ collective / alternative formats.

In planning this, please refer to GI’s exhibition programme which is currently available to view on the website. If you have any questions, please contact diana.stevenson@glasgowlife.org.uk.

Please send completed proposals to diana.stevenson@glasgowinternational.org by 5pm on Monday 17th May.

Recruiting volunteers for Gi2021

We are currently recruiting volunteers for Glasgow International 2021.

Glasgow International (Gi) is Scotland’s largest festival for contemporary art, usually taking place over three weeks every two years across the city of Glasgow. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the 2020 festival was postponed and will now take place Fri 11 – Sun 27 June 2021.

We are hoping to offer in person opportunities to volunteer with Glasgow International. However, this is dependent on Scottish Government Covid-19 advice and guidelines. We aim to additionally have online volunteering roles available. All volunteering tasks and training will strictly adhere to government safety guidelines.

Our team of volunteers is crucial to the success of the festival and provides essential and valued support. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to expand their skills and knowledge, particularly of contemporary art. Volunteering with Glasgow International also gives the chance to be part of a friendly team delivering an exciting event across Glasgow!

We welcome volunteers who have an interest in contemporary art and knowledge of Glasgow. However, no experience is required and we will consider all applications. We are looking for people with a range of backgrounds and ages who can help our audiences find their way around and enjoy the festival. Volunteers must be aged 16 and over.

The festival includes work by artists from different contexts across the world, artists of colour, artists who are women and artists who identify as LGBTQ+. We particularly welcome volunteers who have an understanding of the lived experiences of marginalised communities.

We welcome applications from people who are Disabled. The majority of venues have good wheelchair access and we are happy to work with you to find a role that is accessible to you.

We hope that the experience can be fun as well as a platform for learning, and that there can be space to develop opportunities according to interests.

Travel and meal expenses will be available to all volunteers.

To apply, you will need to sign up as a volunteer with Glasgow Life. Click here to sign up. Once you do so, you will find information on volunteering for Glasgow International on the list of opportunities.

The deadline to apply to volunteer is 28 April 2021. A Volunteer Induction and further training with various possible dates and times will take place in the weeks leading up to the festival start date of 11 June.
