Glasgow International Festival of Contemporary Art

GATHERING: Nicolas Ballet in conversation with Jill Westwood and Adam Lewis Jacob.

Dates and Opening times

Fri 14 Jun, 3pm - 5pm

Join artists Jill Westwood and Adam Lewis Jacob for a conversation on the occasion of their exhibition Protect Me From What I Know.

Though Sohrab Hura - whose work is foundational in this show - is unable to attend, his practice will be included in the conversation.

The conversation will be chaired by Nicolas Ballet, author of Shock Factory and Associate Curator at the Centre Pompidou, and a specialist in avant-garde subcultures. The discussion will explore the radical potential of DIY subcultures to disrupt and challenge systems of power, beginning with the exhibition and exploring the works presented and the ideas that connect them. The conversation will also expand into themes shared across Nicolas’ writing and the practices of both Jill and Adam, including DIY culture, experimental music and performance, and the importance of artist-run and self-organised spaces. The discussion will also reflect on Jill's experience teaching on the MA Art Psychotherapy course at Goldsmiths and Adam’s experience co-founding and running Céline (2015–2025) and current project G.G's. It will consider how such roles and spaces are essential in supporting alternative forms of artistic production and community.

This event is part of a series of events programmed by G.G’s parallel to Protect Me From What I Know, including a film screening at EXIT Glasgow on the 18th June.
