Fabric of Society is a self-organising collective of four UK-based artists of colour. The resulting group exhibition has been woven together by an exploration of fabric and textile.
Drawing on associations that fabric has with constructions of womanhood and identity, Fabric of Society creates and interrogates narratives which are – variously – personal, collective and universal. The project invokes the personal stories of the individual artists involved, while reflecting on our broader social fabric as it gathers and stretches around us – at points enduring, at others fragmenting, unravelling, and being remade.
An artist discussion between Rabiya Choudhry, Raisa Kabir, Jasleen Kaur and Rae-Yen Song is available to watch here.
